fuck knows what iT means, plenty of pros on the PPRUNE message board are in disagreement about it, but the media are spinning it as evidence of a bomb in the front bog.

Best thing I been involved in was an emergency stop in a 747.... the stench from burning rubber... had to wait another hour to let the tyres cool down...

I got back. A bit of turbulence but no bombs.

I much prefer when turbulence is flagged up by the pilot. That said I remember flying back from Singapore one time, middle of the night and the pilot basically yelled over the system for everyone to get up and brace themselves for some serious turb. Spent the net half hour shitting myself but they'd obviously change course after being warned by the plane in front (four BA and Quantas planes go in formation spaced 10 minutes apart) and we got off scot free. Must have been pretty bad to have made the pilot do that.

Pilot" Just hit a pocket of air turbulence there... " Bushey "Phew thank god for that I thought it was a fucking bomb"

That is one of my issues with some pilots.
In cases of bad turbulence all they have to do is come over the tanoy and confirm everything is ok. It would put everyone at rest.
Most of the time they just stay silent... Probably asleep. It's usually the British pilots I find that do take the time to reassure the passengers.

Bet it was them Zoroastrian/Jain extremists again.
Or at least one passenger was a majority shareholder on a Rothschild business interest.

My diary of the disaster
*hears of plane crash* - Interest peaks
*hears it's Egyptian Air* - Interest wanes
*hears one of the people on board was a Brit* - Interest peaks again
*hears he is actually Welsh* - Interest falls off the chart.

My dad was a radio operator in the RAF at Kaitak back in the 50s. He wanted to go on leave but never wanted to fly home just because of the return landing.
Well worth looking up the youtube videos of landing at the old airport. Fucking hair-raising to say the least. Even worse in a prop-engine plane.
I have also done the landing and take off at Funchal (Madeira) its fantastic but a bit scary as you are so close to the water.

Was on a flight that was struck by lightning 4 years ago, Heathrow to Copenhagen.
Bit of turbulence mid way through, a blueish flash, loud bang and stunned silence for a few seconds before a slight whiff of electrical burning come through. Everyone just stared around with a 'did that just really happen' look on our faces.
Pilot, in a very confident, aristocratic and slightly blasé British accent, come on the tannoy with "Congratulations ladies and gentlemen, I've been flying for 13 years and this is only the second time one of my flights has been struck, you are very lucky indeed!"
Calmed everything down at least and made us all laugh nervously. Got a few drinks in after that!

Toncontin airport in Honduras is another with a reputation, short runway with a difficult approach, although I have never done that one

Is it also in Bali where there's a stupidly high percentage of crashes?
Mate went on his honeymoon and most other couples got the 10 hour bus somewhere instead of the plane due to how many crashed.

Kai Tak, the old Hong Kong airport had a scary reputation, planes have to make a sharp turn just before touch down and I arrived there in the complete darkness

I went to Maderia Boxing Day last year. One of the worst places to land apparently and the weather was shit. We circled for about an hour and a half, and he had a few half arsed attempts at landing but gave up, so we spent the night on another island about ten minutes away.
